5 advantages to being an older nursing student

Starting nursing school as older nursing student can be scary. It has all sorts of challenges. But baby it has it's advantages too!

 

1️⃣𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲

That's right! You have Experience and that can't be bought. Your life experience will help you navigate nursing school and communicate more effectively with your professors and your patients.

 

2️⃣𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸

You juggle kids, spouses, groceries, jobs, activities, house work, and some mo' stuff! Knowing how to multitask will help you manage classes, studying, and clinicals as a nursing student.

 

3️⃣𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲

Like. I said you have been through some things so you know that you aren't perfect and our patients aren't either. You've learned to show grace and not hold grudges when people have bad days.

 

4️⃣𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱

You've failed so you know that FAILING IS NOT THE END. You know that you can overcome failure because you have done it before! This is truly a blessing! In nursing you will have many failures. The fact that you have overcome failure before means this won't be a road block for you. You will keep on pushing.

 

5️⃣𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱

You've lived life. You've had ups and downs, struggles, and disappointments. You've also had joy, wins, and some awesome accomplishments. You ain't scared of nothing...not even nursing school!

 

You bring so much to the table by being an older nursing student. Embrace it. It may be the exact thing that helps you get through nursing school!

  • Very encouraging. I’m currently 30 and think I’m too old to do somethings. Then I remember the men and women in the Bible we used at an older age. Yes, we got this!
